SCC To Break Ground For New Health Professions Center On October 20

10/16/2014

West Burlington, IA- Southeastern Community College (SCC) will host a ground breaking ceremony for its new Health Professions Center on Monday, October 20 at 4:30pm on the West Burlington campus.

The projected $10.4 million project will house the latest training equipment and facilities in the healthcare industry. State-of-the-art patient simulation labs, a SCALE-UP classroom, EMT training ambulance simulation room, faculty offices and student study spaces will all be included in the building.

SCC President, Dr. Michael Ash, says the new building will improve student learning and make for skilled graduates prepared to meet the demands of healthcare facilities across the region.

“In West Burlington, our healthcare programs are scattered across campus. Centralizing them under one roof will make for more efficient use of resources, cross-discipline collaboration and sharing of technology.”

The center is just one slice of the college’s four-phase “Building the Dream” comprehensive infrastructure expansion initiative.

Dr. Ash says SCC is very excited to continue offering the Southeast Iowa Region a high quality education for an affordable price. “We have a quality institution right in our back yard that’s affordable and accessible. Thousands of families in the Great River Region rely on SCC to provide opportunities for a quality college education.  The more options we can provide to these students, the more likely they will be to choose SCC and then make their home here afterward.”

The event is free and open to the public.
