SCC Welcomes Iowa Poet Laureate, Mary Swander, to Keokuk Campus on May 1

West Burlington, IA- Southeastern Community College (SCC) will host Iowa’s Poet Laureate, Mary Swander, on Friday, May 1, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in SCC’s Karre Library on Keokuk campus. The event is sponsored by SCC’s Culture on Campus Program.

Iowa’s Poetry Ambassador since 2009, Swander is an accomplished poet, playwright, and banjo player. She is also a professor of English and a Distinguished Professor of Liberal Arts and Science at Iowa State University. Her latest book of poems The Girls on the Roof is a Mississippi River flood narrative.

The event includes a poetry writing workshop from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. in SCC’s Karre Library followed by an open mic poetry reading session, Q&A session and book signing with Swander from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in the Karre Library.

This event is free and open to the public.

Preregistration for the Writing Workshop and Open Mic night is encouraged.
