Reference Letter

In addition to requiring an application, most scholarships ask for letters of reference. These are letters written from people who can attest to the quality of your character, your abilities, and their impressions of you.

When selecting people to be references for you:

  • Tell them why you think they would be a good reference for you
  • Give them this form to use (or if the scholarship has its own form, use that one instead)
  • Tell them who you're sending your letter to so that they are prepared should they receive a call asking for more info about you
  • If they are willing, ask for multiple copies or an electronic version so you can use it again if needed
  • Thank them for 'going to bat' for you!
