Financial Fitness Workshop This Friday, December 2 at Pzazz!

The Southeastern Community College Foundation and the Burlington Notre Dame Foundation have teamed up to co-sponsor the Financial Fitness Workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2 at the Pzazz! Conference Center at 3001 Winegard Drive, Burlington, IA. This comprehensive event focuses on practical and proven ways to shape up personal finances and includes six concurrent workshops with local financial experts, a luncheon featuring a nationally known keynote speaker, two healthy snack breaks, a vendor fair, door prizes, and a wrap-up panel presentation with Q & A. Cost to attend all or part of the day is just $15.

The workshop day begins with a light and healthy morning breakfast break sponsored by Great River Medical Center (GRMC) at 8:30 a.m., followed by opening remarks at 9:45 a.m.

The first two concurrent workshops begin at 10:10 a.m.. Curtis Cloke, CLTC, LUTCF, President and Founder of Thrive Income Distribution Systems and a Financial Life Planner and an Investment Advisor Representative with Two Rivers Financial Group will speak on The Great Retirement Challenge. John Wagner, attorney and Senior Trust Officer with oversight for the brokerage operation of Four Points Financial for Farmers & Merchants Bank & Trust, will speak on Trusts in Estate Planning.

The second two concurrent sessions begin at 11:10 a.m. with a presentation on How to Save for Retirement featuring Joseph Leake, Financial Advisor, AAMS, of Edward Jones in Burlington. John Korschgen, owner of State Farm Insurance, Burlington, will speak on Planning for the Unexpected.

A noon lunch sponsored by Two Rivers will feature a keynote presentation by Jason Kurchner, CEO of Sage Consulting & Wealth Preservation, Inc. of Albany, New York. He is a principal and an owner of the M Financial Group, a member of the Board of Directors for the International Forum and a Certified Financial Planner. He is a contributing expert to the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Barron’s.

At 2:10 p.m., concurrent workshop sessions resume with a presentation on Diversification of Assets by Terri Dowell, Vice President and Managing Director of the US Bank’s Private Client Group in Burlington, Mt. Pleasant and Ottumwa and Blake Wilkinson, Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst and Certified Financial Planner of USBank. Persons interested in debt retirement will be interested in a presentation by The First Church of the Nazarene’s Mike Roundtree. Mike has been facilitating columnist Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University for three years.

GRMC will sponsor a second healthy snack break at 3:00 p.m., followed by the last event of the day. a panel presentation and question and answer session moderated by Marvin Thomson, CFP, LUTCF, Certified Financial Planner and Vice President with Two Rivers Investment Services. Panelists include Joel Bobb, owner of Homestead Financial Services in Fort Madison; Ben Heckart, founding partner of IEA Wealth Management with Iowa offices in Danville and Ankeny and an office in Canon Falls, Minnesota; attorney David Beckman of Beckman Law Offices; and attorney Tim Roberts of Anderson, Roberts, Porth & Wallace Law Offices.
