Calling All Job Seekers: Workforce Readiness Assessment and Job Fair Comes to SCC on April 24, 25

When applying for a job, wouldn’t it be nice to stand out from everyone else? Wouldn’t it be nice to meet several employers and education service providers all in one place? Well, here’s your chance.

The Fort Madison and Keokuk Area Chambers of Commerce, Southeastern Community College and Iowa Workforce Development have teamed up to provide opportunities for individuals to earn a National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) and attend mini-job fairs on April 24 and April 25.

Event details are as follows:

To receive NCRC certification, there will be one, three-hour assessment session offered in the afternoon. The session will take place from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. Participants must register for these sessions in advance by calling the IowaWORKS Office at 319-753-1671 x31408. Applicants should call early as seats are limited.

Those attending the certification session will take three WorkKeys assessments: applied mathematics, locating information, and reading for information. Individuals will answer test questions about scenarios that may occur on the job. These assessments gauge skills that employers deem necessary to succeed in the workplace. While such assessments generally cost $60, they have been made available at no charge through Gov. Terry Branstad’s Skilled Iowa Program.

William Stuflick, Regional Manager of the Iowa Workforce Development office, explains that this event is designed to connect qualified job-seekers with area businesses.

“The nationally-recognized NCRC serves as proof of an individual’s workplace skills. Many area employers require or recommend that job applicants are certified,” says Stuflick.

Not only will individuals have a chance to become certified, they will have an opportunity to talk to area employers and education services providers.

Fort Madison attendees can meet with BagCraft Papercon, Pinnacle Foods, and Team Staffing and Select Staffing representing other area employers.  Education service providers include: Center for Business (CBIZ), Southeastern Community College, and Iowa Workforce Development (IWD).

Keokuk attendees will meet Thomas L. Cardella, Advanced Home Health Care, Iowa Homebased Services, Task Force, Roquette, Henniges, Lexington Place/Lexington Square and Team Staffing.  Education service providers include: Center for Business (CBIZ), Southeastern Community College, and Iowa Workforce Development (IWD).
