SCC to Host Brazilian Guitarist Dr. Guilherme Vincens on Keokuk Campus April 28

Southeastern Community College will host Brazilian guitarist Dr. Guilherme Vincens April 28 at the Keokuk campus of Southeastern Community College. Vincens will present a workshop and a subsequent recital. The events, which are free and open to the public, begin with a workshop at 4:30pm in room 301. Guitarists are invited to bring their instruments to participate in a “hands-on” question and answer session.

At 7:30pm in the Keokuk campus student lounge, Dr. Vincens will perform solo and duets with Jesse James Mazzoccoli, SCC music and guitar instructor. There will also be a performance of a student ensemble under Mazzoccoli’s direction.

Vincens is a full-time professor of guitar and coordinator of the superior degree in music at Federal University of São João Del Rei (UFSJ) in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The award-winning guitarist is frequently invited to perform, teach, research and lecture at music festivals, universities and concert series throughout Brazil, United States, Spain, and Latin America. He has received more than 12 awards in national and international guitar competitions including the Portland International Guitar Competition, Souza Lima Competition in São Paulo, and Jovens Solistas Competition in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
