Blackhawk Bloggers

So you wanna be a blogger.
Got a story to tell? Like to write?
Become a Blackhawk Blogger and share your college experience on your very own personal blog right here on the SCC website.
Maybe you're one of those people whose myspace page is all tricked out. Your pics and posts are tagged all over facebook, and you can't go a day without logging in.
Or maybe you DON'T understand what all the fuss with myspace or facebook is about but you know there are people out there just like you.
Regardless of your comfort level with technology, you like to share what's going on in your life: your ideas, your opinions, your experiences - you're an open book.
Who can do it?
Anybody. It doesn't matter who or what you are - as long as you're a current student.
What does it take?
Basically, if you can type, you can blog. It's that easy. However we're looking for people with:
• Decent writing skills - no need to be Shakespeare but you gotta be able to string your thoughts together
• Willingness to share - hey, it's a BLOG! Share stuff about your college experience - good, bad, advice, lessons learned - whatever!
• Unique perspective - why would somebody want to read what you have to say? Got a unique story? People like your style?
How do you sign up?
Bottom line it for us: why should we pick YOU to be a Blackhawk Blogger? How you do it is up to you: write it, record it, build it - whatever. Convince us.
Email your entry to jebbing@scciowa.edu. Put "Blog me, baby" in the subject line.
What's the deadline?
Submissions are due by midnight, September 7.
Be a Blackhawk Blogger!
What you do:
Write about things you feel are related to your experience here at SCC. Class, friends, events - whatever.
Make regular posts - at least once a week. It doesn't have to be a 10,000 word diatribe - just something to keep your readers informed about what you're up to. Oh, you can trick out your blog with all sorts of cool stuff too - or not - that's up to you.
Why? Remember when you were thinking about college and didn't know all the answers or what SCC would be like? Well, when you share your story, others can get an idea of what it's like. Simple.
The terms of your blog are pretty simple. Let the world know how you're using SCC to get to where you want to go in life - sometimes that'll specifically include SCC, other times maybe not. Just share your SCC experience.
Basically we want you to express yourself. Say what you like. Be honest. Just don't be malicious or profane or outright mean towards anybody.
NOTE: we gotta say that if you're a big jerk and post lies, hatred or offensive content, we'll pull the plug. But you wouldn't be like that, would ya?
What you get:
What? Sharing your life story isn't enough reward? Sheesh.
Lucky we figured you'd want more. So to sweeten the deal and reward those who make an effort, we're giving you a few perks and free stuff.
Some stuff you'll get:
The more you post and keep your blog up-to-date, the more stuff you'll earn.
Plus there's quite a bit of bells and whistles you get with your blog. It's sorta like a Facebook page: colors, widgets, fans, links, etc. Make it as zippy or basic as you like.
Plus there's more stuff for our successful bloggers in the works that we sorta want to keep a surprise for now.
