Reference Letter
In addition to requiring an application, most scholarships ask for letters of reference. The SCC Foundation requires a minimum of two reference lettes. These are letters written from people who can attest to the quality of your character and your abilities. Reference letters tell us why expending scholarship dollars on you would be a good investment. And they help differentiate you from other scholarship candidates.
When selecting people to be references for you:
- Tell them why you think they would be a good reference for you.
- Give them the scholarship reference template (see link below) if they need an outline to follow.
- Ask them to mail or email the letter by the stated deadline (April 1 for Fall/Spring awards or October 1 for Spring-Only awards). Send to:

- If they are willing, ask for multiple copies or an electronic version so you can use it for other purposes, too.
- Thank them for 'going to bat' for you!
