West Burlington, IA – SCC’s Administrative Assistant Program Instructor/Coordinator Trisha Hopper was recognized as Iowa Outstanding Post-Secondary Business Educator by the Iowa Business Education Association at its annual conference in Des Moines last month.

“She is willing to work one-on-one with students who are struggling and does whatever it takes to help them,” says SCC Interim Dean of Academic Planning & Institutional Effectiveness Jan Wolbers. “While she accepts students for who they are, she still expects them to do their best.”

Hopper is in her seventh year as a full-time instructor at SCC and has 20 years of experience in business education. As coordinator, she has been instrumental in keeping SCC’s Administrative Assistant and related degree programs up to date so that they best meet the needs of students and businesses.

Hopper greatly admires many educators at SCC and across Iowa as teachers and as mentors. She has seen them receive similar awards over the years and is honored to join their ranks.

“I have looked to these people as examples of what a teacher should be. We are all here to help students who are seeking a better life. Who wouldn’t want to do that? I’m thankful that SCC has enabled me to do that,” notes Hopper.

SCC President Dr. Michael Ash says Hopper is an invaluable asset to the college.

“Trisha is very well respected by her colleagues here at SCC and gives considerable time and energy to her students.  She strives to help each and every student reach their full potential.”
