SCC to Offer Insight on Financial Aid

03/30/2018

On Tuesday, April 3, Southeastern Community College (SCC) will partner with the Keokuk branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to present the organization's findings in their latest report Deeper in Debt: Women and Student Loans.

Starting at 7 p.m. in the Karre Library at the Keokuk campus, SCC Director of Financial Aid, Renae Armentrout, will lead a discussion derived from the report regarding why female college students find themselves in greater student debt than their male counterparts.

"Women now make up the majority of college students and they are disproportionately affected by student debt," Armentrout said. "The pay gap is one reason why women are not able to take debt on like males."

Armentrout will share information and tips to help students avoid student loan debt upon graduation. She says loans have increasingly become students' go-to way to pay for their education.

"It's our responsibility to make education accessible and help students find ways to make it affordable," Armentrout stated. "By the end of the program, I hope people leave with new ideas about how to prepare financially for their education."

The presentation is free and open to the public.
