SCC Computer Club Competes At BPA Nationals
West Burlington – Six students from Southeastern Community College's (SCC) Computer Club competed at the Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas last week.
BPA is the top career and technical student organization for students pursuing careers
in business management, office administration, information technology, and related
Corey Bielser of Gladstone, IL, Jesse Miller of Burlington, IA, James Noble of Hamilton, IL, Ryan Smith of Wapello, IA, Coltin Taylor of Hamilton, IL, and Luis Valdez of Wapello, IA, participated in the competition.
Students from two- and four-year schools across the States participate in the competition in a variety of information technology categories. Along with competing, students may take Microsoft certification exams for a significantly less fee than it otherwise costs, making them more marketable in their fields.
Biesler, Miller, Noble, and Taylor each brought home Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Certifications. Noble, Smith, Taylor, and Valdez were finalists in Network Administrations Using Microsoft. Noble was a finalist in Parliamentary Procedures Concepts and Project Management while Smith was a finalist in Computer Network Technology and SQL Database Fundamentals.
Taylor, a first-year student, earned his certification in Networking Fundamentals and placed second in PC Servicing and Troubleshooting.
SCC Network Administration and Cyber Security Instructor, Brenda Wamsley, is the co-advisor of the Computer Club.
"I'm always really proud of how well the students do, and they always say, 'Oh, we couldn't have done it with you.' But it really is how hard the students work and their drive to succeed," she says. "It takes a lot of work to prepare and compete at this level."
