Dr. Michael Ash, president of Southeastern Community College (SCC) in West Burlington, Iowa, has been named the 2020 Pacesetter of the Year by the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR). The award recognizes a two-year college chief executive officer who has demonstrated special leadership and support in college communication and marketing.

Southeastern Community College will host the 40th annual Southeast Iowa Superconference Science Fair on Thursday, March 12 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the John H. Witte, Jr. Hall of Sciences on the West Burlington campus. Judging will start at 9:15 a.m.
SCC Reaffirmation of Accreditation, Receives High Marks for Quality

Southeastern Community College was recently notified by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) that its accredited status will continue. The college will undergo its next evaluation in the 2029-2030 academic year. SCC was assessed on a number of criteria, including the quality of teaching, student achievement, academic rigor, and strategic planning.
STEMFest Returns to SCC February 22

The annual Southeast Iowa Regional Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Festival (STEMFest) will take place at SCC's West Burlington campus on February 22, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The family-friendly event is a joint effort among SCC, the Southeast Iowa STEM Region, the Lee County Economic Development Group, Greater Burlington Partnership, local businesses, manufacturers and area educators.
SCC Nursing Graduates Outperform State, National Averages

In the last quarter of 2019, 100% of nursing students who graduated from SCC's LPN and RN programs successfully passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) as reported by the Iowa Board of Nursing.

SCC Awarded Pre-Apprenticeship Program Development Funds

Southeastern Community College was awarded $18,000 to develop a construction trades pre-apprenticeship program. The college will partner with the Burlington Community School District (BCSD), Carl A. Nelson & Company, and Brockway Mechanical & Roofing Co. to create the program for high school students.

Southeastern Community College's music program will host its monthly Live in Concert Series event Tuesday, November 26 at 7 pm on its West Burlington campus. Scheduled to perform are flutist Karen Weirather and pianist Leigh Pirtle. SCC's Culture on Campus is funding the event.

Southeastern Community College's Culture on Campus Committee will host a Visiting Writers Series event Saturday, November 23, at 8 p.m. on its West Burlington campus. Scheduled to appear are poets Joseph Emanuel and Jorrell Watkins, two writers from the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop in Iowa City. SCC's Di Dante Literature & Writing Club will co-host.

Southeastern Community College will offer its next FAFSA Ready Iowa session on November 6. This popular event helps students and families navigate and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The event will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. at both the West Burlington and Keokuk campuses.
SCC Welcomes Zombie Takeover of Keokuk October 11

The SCC Keokuk Campus Drama Club will host its Annual Zombie Walk on Friday, October 11. Registration is free and starts at 5 p.m. The contest begins at 6 p.m. with the walk to follow at Estes Park on Fifth and Main Street in Keokuk.
