Transfer Scholarships for GRADUATING SCC Students!
The SCC Alumni Association and the SCC Foundation offer several scholarships to graduating
SCC students who are planning to continue their education after receiving a degree
from SCC. All of these scholarships are selected from a single application which has an April
1 annual deadline. (See Apply Now button below.)
• SCC Alumni Association Transfer Scholarships: Two $1,000 (non-renewable) scholarships are presented annually at graduation, one per campus graduation. Graduating SCC students can be either transferring to a 4-year institution or continuing at SCC to pursue another degree. They must have applied using the Transfer Scholarship application below. GPA and financial need are considered.
•Dr. Edward C. Stone STEM Scholarship: This scholarship was created by Dr. Edward C. Stone because he had received a continuation scholarship upon graduating from BJC in 1956. Dr. Stone served from 1991-2001 as Director of the Jet Propulsion Lab and continues to serve as the Morrisroe Professor of Physics at CalTech. Since 1972 he has led the Voyageur mission teams to the outer limits of the solar system and he has been project lead for all the Pathfinder missions to Mars. He is currently developing the world's largest optical telescope. He was named the first SCC Distinguished Alumnus in 1997. To be considered for this non-renewable scholarship, graduating SCC students must be transferring to a 4-year institution in pursuit of a STEM degree (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math). The individual who is selected will have applied using the Transfer Scholarship application below and will have the highest grade point in his/her STEM program. In a tie breaker situation, students who have completed all college course work at SCC will receive preference. This non-renewable award varies in amount, but is usually significant. Note: Following the NSF (National Science Foundation) definition, a program in the health occupations/medical sciences is not generally considered as a STEM career.
• Clint & Betty Dodds Continuation Scholarship: This scholarship was established in 2001 by Dr. Patt Dodds in honor of her parents.
Dr. Dodds received a similar award upon her 1966 graduation from Burlington Community
College, a predecessor of SCC. She went on to write the curriculum for Physical Education
Teacher Education that remains the standard in the world today. She was named SCC
Distinguished Alumnus West Burlington Campus in 2007. This non-renewable $500 award goes to the graduating SCC student who applies using
the Transfer Scholarship application below who has the highest GPA of all applicants.
In a tie-breaker situation, the person who qualifies as a minority (broad definition
- a person of color or a person with a disability) will receive first preference,
while an applicant pursuing an Education degree will receive second preference. One
or more awards are made each year with the number varying based on funding.
