Rheinschmidts Continue Tradition of Support with Gift
Southeastern Community College’s Building the Dream capital campaign has received another major gift, this time from alumni Jim Rheinschmidt (‘64) and his wife, Dana (‘80). Jim is co-owner of Rheinschmidt Flooring in Burlington, Dana is a retired educator. They reside in Fort Madison.
SCC and the Rheinschmidt family have a long history together. Jim played basketball with notable former Blackhawks Roger Blalock, Rich Loghry, Joe Tonkinson, and Milan Vorkapich. Dana has served on the SCC Foundation Board since 2004. The couple established a scholarship in memory of friend and long-time Fort Madison High School teacher, Jim Stamp.
SCC President Dr. Michael Ash expressed his thanks for the couple’s support.
“I’ve met few people with as strong and as long of ties to SCC as the Rheinschmidts. They’ve been supporters of the College for decades. Now they’re continuing that support with a generous gift of $25,000,” notes Ash.
SCC Foundation Board Executive Director Becky Rump added, “I’ve worked at SCC since 1987 and I cannot remember a time when the Rheinschmidt family wasn’t involved with the College. Their children attended SCC, and son, Steve (‘95), worked at SCC for a number of years helping implement the first online education program.”
Building the Dream Campaign Chair, Mike Shinn praises the Rheinschmidts for their ongoing and very public loyalty.
“Including the Jim and Dana’s gift, we’ve secured funding commitments well over $9 million of our $12 million goal. We still have a way to go, but we are grateful to this generous family for helping us get closer to our target.”
The Building the Dream capital campaign supports SCC’s construction initiative of the same name. It includes the new Health Professions Center and the Hall of Sciences on the West Burlington campus, and the Industrial Technologies Training Center on the Keokuk campus. With an estimated total project cost of $27 million, it is the largest, most comprehensive infrastructure investment undertaken by SCC since 1995.
