Fort Madison, Keokuk Banking Group Pledges $25,000 to SCC’s Building the Dream

West Burlington, IA - Southeastern Community College’s Building the Dream capital campaign has received another major gift, this time from the former Fort Madison Bank & Trust and Keokuk Savings Bank, along with their affiliates, now known as Connection Bank & Insurance.

SCC President Dr. Michael Ash expressed his sincere gratitude for their support in this time of transition.

“The fact that these institutions made a donation to SCC while in the midst of a corporate merger is an acknowledgement of the vital role SCC serves to our residents and communities,” Ash explained.

SCC Foundation Board Executive Director and campaign coordinator Becky Rump said, “These two institutions have always shown great support for SCC, a gift like this means so much.”

Rump added that this gift has even deeper meaning for Connection Bank & Insurance President Matt Morris, whose parents served on the SCC Foundation Board during the last quarter century. Morris’ late father and SCC alumnus, Jack Morris, served on the SCC Foundation Board from 1990 to 1995, and his mother, Mary Lee, served from 2001 to 2012.

Building the Dream Campaign Chair, Mike Shinn also expressed appreciation.

“Financial institutions are continually asked to support to local charities and initiatives,” Shinn said. “Without the support of institutions like Connection Bank & Insurance, many community projects like this wouldn’t happen. It takes all parts of the community to achieve a goal as ambitious as ours.”

With the gift from Connection Bank & Insurance, the College has secured funding commitments of over $9.3 million of its $12 million goal.

The Building the Dream capital campaign supports SCC’s construction initiative of the same name. It includes the new Health Professions Center and the Hall of Sciences on the West Burlington campus, and the Industrial Technologies Training Center on the Keokuk campus. With an estimated total project cost of $27 million, it is the largest, most comprehensive infrastructure investment undertaken by SCC since 1995.
