Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to open doors to cash for college.

Nursing students qualify for a grant of up to $9,000 from the Great River Health Foundation just for being in the program.

Iowa residents in the licensed practical nursing program (PN) can receive up to $2,500; for non-residents, that amount is $3,000.

Iowa residents earning their associate degree in nursing (ADN) can receive up to $4,000; non-residents may receive $6,000.

HOW LONG IS THE PROGRAM?

  • You can earn your licensed practical nursing (PN) diploma in one year.
  • The associate degree in nursing (ADN) is a two year program.

CAN I TAKE NURSING CLASSES PART TIME?

  • You can take all pre-requisite classes part time. However, the program requires a full-time class load.

WHEN CAN I TAKE NURSING CLASSES?

  • SCC makes it easy for you to go to nursing school. We offer daytime and evening classes to help you work around your schedule.

CAN I TAKE CLASSES AS A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT?

  • Sure! High school students can take all prep classes as concurrent enrollment. Talk to your counselor for info.

I USED TO BE A CNA, BUT MY LICENSE EXPIRED. DO I HAVE TO RETAKE THE CLASS?

  • No. However, you will have to take a refresher course and re-test to get your license again. We’ll help you through the process.

HOW CAN I AFFORD COLLEGE?

  • The Great River Health Foundation offers grants to nursing students each semester to help tackle you financial worries.
  • Many Iowa residents qualify for the Last-Dollar Scholarship, which covers the cost of tuition for the nursing program after any other scholarships
    are applied.
  • All students are eligible for scholarships through the SCC Foundation, slashing the cost of tuition by hundreds, or even thousands.

HOW DO I FILL OUT THE FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA)?

  • Fill out the FAFSA at fafsa.gov, or let us help you!
  • Make an appointment with our educational outreach advisor at (319) 208-5026.

CAN I TRANSFER PRE-REQUISITE CLASSES?

  • Most pre-requisite courses do transfer, but it is at the discretion of the receiving institution. Get info from your admissions recruiter.

WHAT ARE CLINICALS?

  • Nursing clinicals are experiences in actual healthcare settings where students practice nursing skills under the direction of a registered nurse or nursing educator.
  • You can participate in clinicals in long-term care facilities, hospitals, home health agencies, and clinics nearest the campus they are attending. There are a wide range of experiences that each offers.   

I’M GOING FOR MY BSN. CAN I TRANSFER AFTER SCC?

  • Yes! SCC has agreements with a number of great nursing schools, including Iowa Wesleyan University, the University of Iowa, and Mount
    Mercy. 

CAN I LIVE ON CAMPUS?

IF I GO TO SCHOOL IN IOWA, WILL I BE ABLE TO WORK IN OTHER STATES?

  • Once you obtain licensure you are eligible to work in any state. Some states have compact agreements, while others require a single license.
    It is best to check the licensure requirements of each state.
