To recognize one student and one employee on each campus at Southeastern Community College whose contributions have enriched the lives of students and members of the College community, the local/regional community as a whole, and the institution of SCC. The award will be presented on an annual basis to individuals of SCC who have made significant contributions in the areas of leadership and service.


Student nominees must be enrolled during the present academic year. Staff nominees may include any contracted employee of the institution (full-time, part-time, less than part-time, etc.). Student awards will be presented at the annual Spring Student Recognition Reception. Staff awards will be presented at the Keokuk and West Burlington end-of-year events respectively.

Evaluation Criteria

The nominees will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Service to the local/regional community.
  • Service to Southeastern Community College and its students.
  • Exceptional leadership skills demonstrated either at Southeastern Community College or within the community.

Evaluation of the nominees will be conducted by:

  • A member of Phi Theta Kappa—one current member or alumni
  • A faculty member of Southeastern Community College.
  • A support staff member of Southeastern Community College.
  • A member of Southeastern Community College administration.

Faculty and administrative members of Southeastern Community College will serve on the committee for a term of two years. The committee members from Phi Theta Kappa will serve for one year. During the time these members are on the committee they will not be able to nominate or be nominated for this award.

Nomination Procedures

Nominations must come from students currently enrolled at Southeastern Community College or its employees. Each nomination must contain detailed documentation of why the individual being nominated should be considered for the Outstanding Leadership & Community Service Award. Nomination forms are available online at www.scciowa.edu or from a Phi Theta Kappa advisor. 

  1. Only a fully completed nomination form will be considered.
  2. Documentation to support the individual’s accomplishments and contributions may include:  newspaper articles, letters from businesses or individuals who were also involved in the service project, etc.

Nominations that do not follow these procedures will not be considered.
