Works of Photographer Loretta Verret Come to SCC December 4

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa - SCC is proud to present a new exhibition showcasing the profound and contemplative nature photography of Iowa-based artist Loretta Verret.

The exhibition will run December 4, 2025 through February 28, 2026. SCC will host an artist reception on December 4 from 5:00–7:00 PM at the Schuldt & Moore Gallery on the West Burlington campus.

From the earliest days of her childhood, Verret dreamed of following in the footsteps of her family’s tradition of professional photography. Growing up immersed in a visually observant household, she developed an early instinct for capturing fleeting moments in nature—seeing a photograph unfold even before it occurred.

Verret’s work is deeply rooted in her personal connection to the natural world. Her photographic subjects include butterflies, flowers, trees, and winter landscapes, each revealing her reverence for creation and seasonal transformation. She notes a particular affinity for Indian summer, which she describes as celebrating “the unique beauty of the unknown.”

"Being a photographer has become a big part of my life,” Verret shared. “It gives me a feeling of freedom, an expression of God's movements and creations.” Her images offer more than visual appeal. They serve as quiet meditations on the spiritual and emotional resonance of the world around us. For Verret, photography is a form of worship and self-discovery, fostering a deeper connection to what she calls “a supreme artist.”

Having previously exhibited in community spaces such as Zion Church in Burlington and Morning Sun, Verret brings a thoughtful and authentic perspective to SCC’s gallery walls. Her photographs invite viewers to pause, reflect, and find inspiration in the simple yet sacred beauty of the everyday.

The exhibition will remain on view from December 4, 2025 through February 28, 2026, and is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM. Artwork will be available for purchase directly from the artist.

This exhibition is free and open to the public. For more information on the exhibit or upcoming events at The Galleries at SCC, please contact Molly Smeltser at msmeltser@scciowa.edu or visit www.scciowa.edu.
