SCC Press Release

SCC Business Students Take Honors at State Competition

Southeastern Community College’s Business Professionals of America student club competed February 22-24 in Cedar Rapids. All six members of the SCC Business Club who competed at the Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference in Cedar Rapids achieved at least an honorable mention. Three of the students have qualified to go on to the National Leadership Conference May 5-9 in Anaheim, CA. Each will compete in computer and business-related contests. Some of the competitions are hands-on computer tests, some are written tests and some are performance test--i.e. extemporaneous speech and entrepreneurship. Members of the club competed against post-secondary members from other Iowa community colleges. Now they will compete against students from fourteen states.

Approximately 3,200 high school, 100 middle school, and 800 college students from throughout the United States participate in Business Professionals of America’s National Leadership Conference. Activities include general sessions with keynote speakers, business meetings, leadership workshops, contests, election of national officers, and more. The highlight of the conference is always the presentation of awards to the winners of national contests.

Southeastern Community College has a long tradition of sending talented students from the Business to national competitions who take top honors there as well. Last year two SCC Business Club students returned with numerous awards, one with a First Place medal. This year’s group of students appears to be well on its way to bringing home even more kudos.
