Do you have a unique or Impressive talent or act? Then Southeastern Community College is looking for you.  SCC is hosting its first ever Talent Spectacular on Friday, March 1, at the Capitol Theater in Burlington. The Talent Spectacular is sponsored by the SCC Student Board. It will be produced and directed by John Speer and Doug Daller of Twentieth Century Productions. Speer is also adjunct professor of theater, public speaking, and film at SCC. Speer and Daller have produced several shows for SCC and for the Capitol Theater, including Forever Plaid, Annie, and Grease.

Persons and groups of all ages are encouraged to present their act or talent at the scheduled auditions.  Speer and Daller are seeking singers, actors, comedians, dancers, jugglers, gymnasts, lip synchers, comedy improv groups, and rock bands.

Talented performers from across the region are encouraged to audition for the shows.

  • Des Moines and Louisa County residents: Monday, January 21, and Monday, January 28, from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm in the Little Theater on SCC’s West Burlington campus
  • Fort Madison area residents: Monday, January 28, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Fort Madison High School Theater

  • Mount Pleasant area residents: Wednesday, January 30, from 8:00 to 10:00 pm at SCC’s Mount Pleasant center

Speer explains that the auditions are more intended to organize the acts than to determine contestants. There will be two first round variety shows. The show for Des Moines, Henry and Louisa County contestants will be Friday, February 22, at 7:00 pm in the Loren Walker Arena on SCC’s West Burlington campus. A show for Lee County contestants will be held on Saturday, February 23, at 7:00 pm at the Grand Theater in Keokuk.

"The real auditions will be during the two variety shows when the contestants perform their talent onstage in front of the audience.”

Guest judges and audience response will determine the top talent at each show. The winners will go on to compete for the $500 Grand Prize during the SCC Talent Spectacular at the Capitol Theater in downtown Burlington on Friday, March 1, at 7:00 pm.
