SCC to Host Open House for Workforce Solutions Re-Engagement Center February 20

Southeastern Community College will host an open house for its new Workforce Solutions Re-engagement Center on Wednesday, February 20 in Room 401 at the college’s Keokuk campus. The Open House will run from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.. Staff from Workforce Solutions will showcase the variety of services the center offers.

“The Re-Engagement Center prepares people for the workforce, regardless of their skill level or employment status,” says Jared Reed, a pre-employment training facilitator for Workforce Solutions.

Services offered include: GED training, general education courses, individualized literacy, career help, and personal advising. Staff and instructors work together to help individuals become self-reliant and ultimately attain employment.

The center will now be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday. The expanded hours will allow the center to offer a variety of new training activities every day of the week.

“Individuals can get one-on-one assistance preparing for job interviews, brush up on computer skills, and a chance to earn a National Career Readiness Certificate,” says Reed.

The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) is an industry-recognized credential used by many employers throughout the United States. Certificate holders are recognized as having skills such as critical thinking, reading and using work-related text(s), and problem solving

Reed explains that Workforce Solutions is a bridge between two existing SCC programs that are critical to building a strong community: Adult Education and the Workforce Investment Act.

Reed believes that combining the resources of both programs in one location is highly beneficial for all involved. “Our goal is to bolster the services provided to customers who need them so that we make a greater impact on the community.”
