SCC Press Release

SCC Names New Vice President of Academic Affairs

Southeastern Community College recently selected Dr. Carole Richardson to be its new Vice President of Academic Affairs. Richardson will assume the role on June 2.

Richardson comes to SCC with 15 years of experience in higher education. Most recently, she served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at North Country Community College in Saranac Lake, NY.

She has also served in increasing roles of responsibility at Central Michigan University, Hagerstown Community College, American University and Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College.

Her education includes a Ph. D. in Public Administration from Western Michigan University, a Management and Leadership in Education Certificate from Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a Master’s of Public Administration from Central Michigan University.

Richardson replaces SCC’s former Vice President of Teaching and Learning, Dr. Phil Thomas. Dr. David Schachtsiek and John Cavanah have served as Interim Vice Presidents since Thomas’ departure in 2012.

SCC President Michael Ash is looking forward to Dr. Richardson joining the team.

“We’re very busy reviewing and researching educational programs that align with the College’s Strategic Plan, and we’re just beginning some large construction and expansion projects. Having a full-time Vice President leading the charge is key to moving forward.”

The search for Richardson took considerable time. SCC had the position open for nearly two years before finding Richardson. Ash explains that previous candidates just didn’t have the depth of experience or demonstrated success SCC needs.

During Dr. Richardson’s vetting process, the college’s search committee received resounding references attesting to her talents and achievements. “This position is too important for us to settle for anything less than an ideal candidate.  We’re very happy that we found someone like Carole who can help us move the College forward.”

Richardson is excited to join the SCC family.

“I’m very impressed with SCC’s commitment to student success and strong focus on continuous improvement. SCC has a great future and I’m eager to be part of the team.”
