SCC Zombie Walk Lurches Toward Its Sixth Year, Arrives October 14
10/11/2016
Southeastern Community College Keokuk campus Drama Club will host its annual Zombie Walk 2016 on Friday, October 14. The walk will begin at Estes Park at Fifth and Main Street in Keokuk. Registration starts at 5:00 p.m. The contest starts promptly at 6:00 p.m., with walk to follow.
Participants will walk from the south side of Main from Fifth to Eighth Street then cross to return to Estes Park via the north side of Main.
Creator and organizer of the event, SCC English Instructor and Drama Club Advisor, Jodi Cook, says the contest and Walk continues to grow in popularity every year. Exceeding 150 participants and many more spectators, individuals line up along the Walk route to watch and record the disheveled horde shambling by.
“Zombie walks and races are popular in a lot of places across the country and Keokuk is no exception,” says event coordinator and SCC instructor Jodi Cook. “I am amazed by the talent and creativity of the participants every year, and the atmosphere is light and fun for all ages. We have been delighted to see the public involvement as they come to watch the contestants perform for judges or line the Walk route to watch the horde parade.”
There are over $475 in cash prizes for child, youth, group, and individual categories with one grand prize of $100 for Best Overall Zombie. The event is free and open to the public, although the Drama Club does accept food pantry items or pet food for the shelter. Bring out your dead!
