Your Guide to Financial Aid at SCC

Applying for financial aid can feel overwhelming. We get it. But here’s the good news: you don’t have to figure it out on your own. Whether you're applying for the first time or just need a quick refresher, SCC has resources to help you understand your options and make the most of them.

It all starts with the FAFSA. That one application can open the door to grants, work-study opportunities, and student loans. To get started, fill out your FAFSA online and be sure to include SCC’s school code: 004603. That’s how we’ll know you’re planning to attend here and can match you with the aid you may qualify for.

If you get stuck or aren’t sure where to begin, no worries. SCC offers support for students and families navigating the process. Our team can walk you through it, answer your questions, and make sure you’re on the right track.

Now, let’s talk about the different types of financial aid you might come across.

There are grants, which are typically need-based and don’t have to be paid back. Scholarships are another great option. These are awarded for things like academic performance, involvement, or specific criteria, and they don’t require repayment either.

Loans are available, too, and while they do need to be repaid with interest, they can still be a helpful option for covering costs. There are generally four types of student loans you’ll find at SCC.  Lastly, there’s work-study, which lets you earn money through a part-time job while you’re in school.

If you’re looking for scholarships, SCC makes it easy. With just one application, you’ll be considered for hundreds of scholarship opportunities through the SCC Foundation. It’s one of the best ways to get funding without taking on debt. And if you want to look beyond SCC, check out sites like Scholarships.com or BigFuture for more opportunities.

One last thing: don’t forget about deadlines! Submitting your scholarship application before SCC’s priority deadlines gives you the best shot at receiving the most aid. Mark your calendar and don’t wait until the last minute.

At the end of the day, financial aid is about creating a path to your future. And we’re here to walk that path with you, every step of the way.
