Tips & Reminders
Here are a few tips to help you succeed in your concurrent enrollment courses as you get a Jumpstart to your college career.
- Grades and completion of courses are IMPORTANT as your final grade will go on your high school and college transcript. Grades can impact your extra-curricular activities including athletic participation and future financial aid after graduating from high school.
- Time Management is key to your success. Please read your syllabus and keep up with assigned dates for quizzes, test, papers, and threaded discussions.
- High School breaks don’t always mean college breaks so PLAN AHEAD!
- Before you take a college level course, think about your high school connections, such as extracurricular activities and/or a part-time job.
- If you register for a course as a self-pay student, make sure you know all of the cost (tuition, fees, books and supplies) ahead of time. You don’t want to get into the class and then realize you don’t have enough money to cover the expenses. Note: high school students are not eligible for financial aid.
- Check Your E-mail Account - SCC sends important information through your SCC email account. Get in the habit of checking it often.
- Drop Dates - The last day for a refund on tuition and fees, and the last day to drop a class, are determined by the start and end date of the class. Drop dates are posted on the SCC website. Please speak with your high school counselor or your student success advocate if you need to change, drop, or withdraw from a course.
- Online Courses / Canvas - Log into the course on the first day of class and read the syllabus, course schedule, grading scale, and assignment deadlines. Your time logged in and activity is documented by our IT department. Check your SCC and course email often - your class information and anything regarding your SCC course will be sent to that email once your class starts.
- Help Desk - If you are locked out of your SCC Hawknet account or having difficulties
logging in, contact the Help Desk.
